Do whale sharks migrate long distances?

Yes, whale sharks are known to migrate over long distances. For example, whale sharks from the Eastern Pacific sub-population can migrate to the Western Indo-Pacific, spanning two ocean basins.

These migrations can cover thousands of miles and occur for various reasons, including mating, feeding, and possibly following plankton blooms.

One tracked whale shark traveled a record-breaking 12,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean, highlighting the incredible migratory abilities of these creatures.
